Surely you all saw the abandoned National Rail platform in the back of shot?

Indeed, and a line which was neither fourth rail nor AC electrified.

I knew that East Putney had the old, overgrown NR platforms and as soon as I saw this one I just knew it was the southern end of it.

I found this convincing, even the down to the diagonal drainage channel on the platform.

What was the "outrageous deduction" based on?

Mine? Erm, the overgrown, disused platform.

I saw the non-electrified (by either 4th rail or OHE) track next to an abandoned platform, but alas I could not place them. Was looking up the marylebone lines.

Whether by accident or design, it was hard to identify the third rail.

I fell into the trap thinking it was a 4th rail visible at the bottom of the pair, due to the dullness of the running surface. I did realise the dead platform, but put it to an ex-LUL use, rather than NR.

I made the search by platform surface, eventually coming across the dead platform at East Putney, face-desking, and it all falling into place.

Now, if anyone can help with finding tender details for flights of steps, I'll be interested....

OK, time to formally close this quiz down.

As already revealed the station is East Putney. The extra running lines and abandoned platform forming a NR link between Wimbledon/SWT's Wimbledon depot and the the lines via Richmond at Point Pleasant Junction.

This link is used mainly for empty stock workings to/from the depot but is scheduled to be used by two late night services (though in my experience they rarely do go via Point Pleasant). The Point Pleasant link is also very useful as a diversionary route when engineering works cuts off the direct route via Earlsfield, outer suburban services can go this way to pick up thier usual route at Wimbo/Clapham J.

Also of note, since NR trains use this piece of track it is NR who signal it, from a point just south of Putney Bridge.

Anyway, here is who got it right...

...and wrong...

--greatkingrat (Colindale)

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!
