Which is the only UK number 1 single that not only does not contain its own title in the lyrics, but instead contains the title of the song that replaced it at number 1?

Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody contains the words "Mamma Mia" (title of Abba song).

Complete guess!

5. What difficulty ensued when Tazio Nuvolari won the 1935 German Grand Prix, and how was it resolved?
The authorities (i.e. the Nazis) had not even considered a non-German racing driver winning the race so when Nuvolari won, they hadn't got a copy of the Italian national anthem to play. Nuvolari solved this by handing over his own copy of it for them to play.

Widely considered one of, if not the greatest win in motorsport history.
Could have sworn that it said "British Grand Prix" yesterday. Obviously I would have got it otherwise.

Then I presume that's George VI, whose first name was Albert, bowling out Edward VII, George V and Edward VIII.

OK, here's one:

Who won a by-election, and then became party leader before their party had won another by-election?

Yes. The question asked for the unique aspect of the event, not the name of the bowler.

4 and 6 - absolutely correct.
5 - near enough. The winner's anthem was due to have been played 'live' by a band, who it turned out had only bothered to learn the German anthem. Nuvolari produced a recording of the Italian anthem he'd brought with him 'just in case'.

I wasn't sure about number 4, because technically the question was incorrect. Fred Trueman wasn't an air-raid warden, he just played one. (Unless the answer to the question was supposed to be "E.C. Egan".)

Incidentally I've realized that my own question may have more than one answer, so I'll qualify it as follows:

Who won a by-election, served in government, and then became party leader before their party had won another by-election?

William Hague, perhaps?

Correct!

William Hague won the Richmond by-election on 23 February 1989. The Conservatives won no further by-elections in that Parliament. They won the 1992 general election but no by-elections in that Parliament. He joined the government in 1993, becoming Secretary of State for Wales in 1995. After the Labour victory in 1997, he became Conservative party leader on 19 June 1997. The next Conservative by-election winner was John Randall in Uxbridge on 31 July 1997.

No takers ?!?

In 1986, "Invisible Touch" by Genesis was replaced by "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel.
