A Story from Tyne and Wear Metro - discussion

Can you identify a station from just a paving slab? Sadly, some people can

A Story from Tyne and Wear Metro - discussion

Post by GuyBarry »

Well, the nights are drawing in, and this is the time of year when we traditionally tell stories by the fireside - what better time to resurrect the story game? You may recall that the end of Travelling Light saw a big reconciliation between Beck and Jane. Now Beck has returned home and her daughter is causing problems as usual...

My apologies for not completing all the work on the Travelling Light wiki page (other things took priority), but I'll get it done ASAP. As previously discussed, this time we'll be using the 60 stations of the Tyne & Wear Metro; the full list is here (please don't edit). This is the list of stations so far unused:

http://hidden-underground.wikia.com/wik ... _remaining

If possible, please edit the list whenever you use a station name in the story. As with Travelling Light, we may well run out of stations before the end of the story so I welcome suggestions for another network to use.

Please use this thread for all story-related discussion and this one for the story itself. Good luck!

Well, I'll dip into this thread when I can find the time...! Let's see how it progresses.
[Just check - it seems that 'Bede' has been used, but not removed from the list.]

Oh good! I hoped I wouldn't have to abandon it.

My mistake! It's been a long time - out of practice :)

Tube Geek wrote:After dialling her brother JESMOND's number, she said ''I'm coming round to yours'', and off she went

Jesmond's real name was Desmond, but he was stupid when younger, so people called him Jesmond.
''Let me through the GATES!''
''HEAD on through'' he said
Walking past haystacks, she asks ''Where do you get all this HAY?''
''MARKET down the road'' Beck replied.
''Who's stall?''
''SIMON'S. IDEally, I'd get them from the ST-''
''PETER'S, right?'' she interrupted
''How did you know?'' Jesmond asked
''You told me at UNIVERSITY, next to the AIRPORT''
''So I did. The airport where the KING'S TON PARK was built?''
''Yes. that one''

And thus their time was passed.
(This is hard!)
Well you've done very well indeed! Thanks for getting things going again - I'll write a new instalment when I've got a bit more time.

Just one rule that you probably weren't aware of - if a station name consists of a single word, then you can't just use the word as it is - it has to be either concealed within a longer word or split between two or more other words. So I'm afraid "Jesmond", "university" and "airport" will have to be fitted in differently. It's quite challenging but it can be very rewarding when you work it out! Some of the others are really clever (especially "Simonside"), so please keep going.

Oh... I've got an idea for airport, so I'll edit it now. I'll also add in some more stations!

A couple of suggestions for the next one - ''A Story From GWR'', where it is all the stations on the Great Western Railway, or ''A Story From Blackpool Trams'', where it is all 38 stops in a story. Obviously, we have got to finish the T&W Metro one first!

Can we post 2 in a row? Because I have an idea to get a hard one out of the way!

Don't see why not - or you could just edit your last post (as I used to do). I'm a bit busy with other things at the moment but I promise to write a new instalment later this week.

I know - that's why I can't just dash off a post as I can with the other games. These things take time to work out.

Have you looked at any of our previous stories on the Hidden Underground Wiki?

I had a look at the DLR/Tramlink one, but that's it!

Hidden Underground (the Underground one) is The Benchmark. East Side Story (TfL Rail) was what brought the series back, while Over The Top (the Overground) was the sequel. Off The Rails (remaining National Rail) tied up the remaining loose ends. Travelling Light (DLR/Tramlink) was really the start of a new chapter in the story.

It'll Be All Wight on the Night (Isle of Wight) and Take That Dr Beeching (Borders Railway) were one-shot side stories. 1863 and All That (Paddington to Farringdon) was something I wrote as a prequel to Hidden Underground.

You'll see a number of the characters are pretty beloved of us (Don, especially, being the poster boy of the series). I think he's been in all the main stories so far (apart from Tyne and Wear)!!
