F1 Side Competition 2014 Progress

Post by tubeguru »

As with last year, this thread is for me to keep a record of how we're doing with each of the predictions as the season goes on. I won't be keeping an eye on penalties this year, unless they count towards points being applied to a driver's super-licence.

LAST UPDATE: USA

1. How many different teams will win races this season?

Current stat: Two (Mercedes and Red Bull)

2. How many different teams will win the first six races?

Current stat: One (Mercedes) - RESULT DECLARED

3. Who will be the first driver to retire from the Australian Grand Prix after the lights go out? (DSQs will not count)

Current stat: Kamui Kobayashi - RESULT DECLARED

4. Who will be the first-listed non-classified driver in the official results of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix?

Current stat: N/A

5. Which driver will get the most pole positions?

Current stat: Nico Rosberg (nine)

Others: Lewis Hamilton (seven), Felipe Massa (one)

6. Which driver will retire from the most races? (DSQs will not count)

Current stat: Adrian Sutil (seven)

NOTE - Pastor Maldonaldo did not start the Monaco GP and Kamui Kobayashi did not start in Singapore, so technically they did not "retire" from those races. Therefore these do NOT count as retirements. Bianchi's DNSs at the end of the season do not count as retirements. The withdrawal of Marussia and Caterham will not affect this stat - the drivers will not be classified DNF for the remaining races.

7. How many times will Jenson Button finish on the podium?

Current stat: One

8. What will Felipe Massa's best race result be?

Current stat: Third

9. Who will be the first driver to be replaced FOR A RACE for any reason?

Current stat: Kamui Kobayashi - RESULT DECLARED

10. At how many events will the Full Wet tyre be used by at least one driver DURING A RACE?

Current stat: One (Japan)

11. Will Daniel Ricciardo win a grand prix?

Current stat: Yes - RESULT DECLARED

12. Which driver will accumulate the most number of "penalty points" under the new system?

Current stat: Marcus Ericsson and Pastor Maldonaldo (five each)

Others: Jules Bianchi and Kevin Magnussen - (four each), Jean-Eric Vergne (three, Valtteri Bottas, Romain Grosjean, and Adrian Sutil (two each), Esteban Gutierrez (one) )

13. Which team will finish fifth in the constructors’ championship?

Current stat: McLaren

14. At which event will the drivers’ championship be decided?

Current stat: Abu Dhabi - RESULT DECLARED, given the points positions and the presence of double points. It can't be won in Brazil.

15. Who will be leading the drivers' championship immediately after the German Grand Prix (the halfway point of the season)?

Current stat: Nico Rosberg - RESULT DECLARED

16. Team-mate head-to-heads:

Current stat (Classified results will be used where both drivers fail to finish. A driver excluded from the results automatically finishes "behind" his team mate):

Caterham - Kobayashi 7, Ericsson 6, Lotterer 0 (neither Kobayashi or Ericsson was classified in Canada or Hungary, so no score for those races. Kobayashi did not start in Singapore, so did not retire from the race. None of the drivers started in the USA).
Ferrari - Alonso 14, Raikkonen 3
Force India - Hulkenberg 8, Perez 7 (neither driver was classified in Hungary or USA, so no score for those races)
Lotus - Grosjean 8, Maldonaldo 7 (neither driver was classified in Canada or Belgium, so no score for those races. Maldonaldo did not start in Monaco, so did not retire from the race)
Marussia - Bianchi 9, Chilton 6 (neither driver was classified in Canada, so no score for that race. Bianchi did not start in Russia, and will DNS the rest of the season. Neither driver started in the USA)
McLaren - Button 12, Magnussen 5
Mercedes - Hamilton 11, Rosberg 6
Red Bull - Ricciardo 12, Vettel 5
Sauber - Sutil 7, Gutierrez 7 (neither driver was classified in Bahrain, Monaco, or Singapore, so no score for those races)
Toro Rosso - Vergne 8, Kvyat 7 (neither driver was classified in Monaco or Austria, so no score for those races)
Williams -Bottas 10, Massa 7

As we're now near the end of the season, it's getting impossible for some drivers to lose the head-head against their team-mate.

The confirmed winners after the Singapore GP (and with two races to go) are Alonso, Button, Ricciardo, Hamilton, Bottas, Kobayashi, and Bianchi.
