Yeah, that one asking for a vowel really put the cat among the pigeons.

Depending on how you interpret it, I reckon there are more possible answers to that question than any of the others.

It occurred to me to use vowels from French or German, but I decided against it - maybe I shouldn't. Similarly I did wonder about interpreting the base "10" on q1 as being in hexadecimal. Again - I didn't do it - maybe I'll regret that decision.

Had I spent more time being anal, I could have answered all sorts of things to those questions.

Hopefully foreign vowels will be marked as correct, as he didn't specify which language they had to be in.

I hope so, as I used a Greek vowel. I did think about saying "W", which is a vowel in Welsh and also in a few English loan-words from Welsh (like "cwm").

But in fact the word "vowel" strictly refers to a vowel sound rather than a vowel symbol, so I reckon you could have any of the 35 vowels of the International Phonetic Alphabet.

I think it's reasonable to assume that the number base is written in decimal rather than the base of the numbers being represented - otherwise every base would be base 10.

Well done Sam. A remarkably good score considering there were 15 entries and not many correct answers for some of the questions. tubeguru ends up in last position, as normal, even though he submitted serious answers this time!

I love the fact that GuyBarry and greatkingrat outsmarted each other on Q10- both submitting the same 'loophole' answer. They'd have been better off choosing a 'regular answer'!

Unbelievable - I could have picked any of the regional news programmes but decided to stick with my local one. And I got the most popular answer on six occasions - clearly I've got a lot to learn about this game!

(Still pleased with "epsilon" for (7), though. Wonder why no one chose Y?)

Y is considered a consonant. At least, it is in English.

Y can be a consonant or a vowel in English, e.g. consonant in "yes", vowel in "happy".

I was going to go for tractakid for Q10, but changed my mind at the last second because he was writing the quiz...

EDIT: Q9, not Q10.

Good choice. 'tractakid' was not broadcast on BBC1 at any point.

Also, which language/alphabet to use was not specified, therefore any vowel from any non-latin alphabet should have been an acceptable answer.

I am fairly pleased with my score where I deliberately picked the 1st (in a given sequence - i.e Mercury) or what I considered the most obvious answer (e.g. Geoff Marshall). So a mid table finish isn't bad.

The "Points West" problem proves this is all down to luck!
