How many other people would prefer it if we stuck to names instead of codes?

I would actually prefer codes- I like looking them up and learning them. Then I can keep myself amused on car journeys by spotting them on numberplates.

I would prefer NAMES. Do people go through life speaking in acronyms? I do hope my train from WIM to WAT isn't delayed later... no, just no!!tubeguru wrote:How many other people would prefer it if we stuck to names instead of codes?

Interesting idea. I'll look into it.scrxisi wrote:My train from HHY to CYP had to run early yesterday due to someone going for a walk down the NLL.
Anyway, Neil, am I right in thinking there's a word filter option on here? I reckon it'd be reasonably easy to knock up a query to insert all the codes and station names into the forum database to satisfy all. So that it, for example, changes HHY to Highbury and Islington (HHY) without people having to worry.

HOW will you ADD this without affecting 3 letter words, MAY I ASK?

That was my first thought after posting my last message.

The use of three-digit station codes
I've moved the above posts from the "Where am I" thread where they originally appeared. We can continue arguing here.

Re: The use of three-digit station codes
There is a very simply solution. I can change each post manually, so that the three-digit code is removed, and the station name inserted in its place.

OK, I will continue to ask you nicely to put the name of the station in for those of us who don't want to look it up.

Re: The use of three-digit station codes
Talking of station codes/names, I was thinking of stealing a quiz I found elsewhere.
It involves station usage figures.

Re: The use of three-digit station codes
How about people just bookmark nationalrail.co.uk and bother to type 3 letters in?

Re: The use of three-digit station codes
Of course you can ask me for a spreadsheet listing every single one as used by National Rail!

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!
