Hopefully this rare entries quiz will be easier than the (now extended) previous one. It will also keep you lot happy whilst I compose some more railbenders.

Unless otherwise stated this quiz refers to National Rail and the constuient Train Operating Companies (TOCs) that have Franchise or Open Access agreements.

NOTES:
--GX and SN are considered separate for the purposes of this quiz.
--By scheduled, I mean the normal weekday timetable as per the NRT and/or printed TOC timetables.

1. Name any class of unit (DMU or EMU) that Northern Rail operates

2. Name a station that has 10 or more platform faces in use for National Rail trains

3. Name a station within the M25 that only has one platform in use

4. Name a "London Terminal" that is only used by ONE TOC throughout the day, as per the National Rail Timetable

5. Name any TOC that has trains that are timetabled to call at Crewe

6. Name any station served by request only on the Far North Line

7. Name any operator, since privatisation, that has operated a Class 150

8. Name a route that is scheduled to operate by class 455 units *please mention both terminii and via point if necassary* e.g. London Liv. St. - Chingford.

9. Name a station at which FGW IC125s are scheduled to call but all the passenger coaches cannot physically fit in the platform/s

0. Name a station that SWT serves but the station is NOT managed by SWT

Lets give it a week until 23:59:59 on Tuesday 05th February 2013 to submit your answers by PM ONLY.

Is there any distinction between physical platform faces and single platforms split into two platform "numbers"?
tangy wrote:9. Name a station at which FGW IC125s are scheduled to call but the whole train cannot physically fit in the platform/s
Do you mean the ENTIRE train, from the very tip of the nose one end to the very tip of the nose the other end, or are you only talking about coaches? Or are you only talking about all the doors being platformed? Naturally, I know most of these on the routes I sign, and I can forsee an argument starting if I give a valid answer and you deem it incorrect.

Physical platform faces is what you answer should be based upon.

All the passenger coaches must be on the platform, the power cars can hang off the ends.

I will amend th wording to these questions.

All three platforms at Par station can indeed accommodate a full 2+8 HST.

If you read the timetable it is marked as having a short platform, also according to the timetable Truro is a short platform but in both cases all 8 carriages are platformed and all doors are opened.

I think it's only marked as a "short platform" because of the stopping position of the front of the train in relation to the signals on one of the platforms. This means that maybe the last door might not be on the platform.

BUT, physically, the whole train will fit on the platform if the signal position was not an issue. Tangy did not ask about stopping positions, so Par should not be counted as a "short" platform.

Now that entries have closed, i'll reveal I used the list of stations on the 'cycle by train' PDF. http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/~/me ... v_2011.pdf

Hmmm ... that list is by no means exhaustive, and is based purely on a train's stopping position in relation to signals, meaning that if the TGS was at the rear of the train (where it would normally be expected to be found at the front), then it will be off the platform.

There are plenty of other stations where signals are not an issue, and the TGS will be platformed, with some other portion of the train NOT platformed, such as at Exeter St. Thomas, Starcross, Cholsey, Pangbourne, Goring and Streatley, Totnes, Ivybridge, and so on.

Those joint SE/FCC trains between Kent and north London are only operated by SE south of Blackfriars. North of Blackfriars they become FCC operated even though it is a through train.

You may notice trains from Kent (e.g. Sevenoaks) say operator SE but going to Sevenoaks the operator says FCC, as the "switch" between operators happens at Blacks.

To quote the SET timetable book: FS- Service operated jointly by SET and FCC. Operated by FCC between Blackfriars and Bedford.

This is the criteria I used to mark this answer as correct, only FCC serve CTK.

I would argue that Vauxhall almost certainly and perhaps Waterloo East should be classed as incorrect.

Firstly you stated we had to name a "London Terminal" and neither Vauxhall or Waterloo East are termini. Secondly you stated your arbiter for whether answers are correct or not for this question is the NRT and from what I can see Vauxhall is omitted as a London station altogether in the stations list.

I am assuming you have accepted answers here which are included in the list of stations which "London Terminals" tickets are valid to travel to but this concept has no bearing on the NRT. It also has an additional "s" so if you were attempting to refer to this list the question should have been worded "Name a station on the "London Terminals" ticketing list that is only used by ONE TOC throughout the day, as per the National Rail Timetable"
