Re: 2012 Formula One Season
If Lewis Hamilton wins all three remaining races, and Vettel doesn't score in any of them, Hamilton will tie Vettel's current points total, and will win the title on number of wins (six versus five). Of course, at the same time, Alonso must not score more than 13 points, otherwise he'll beat them both. If he does manage to somehow score exactly 13 points from the three races, they'll all be on 240 points.
I wonder what odds you could get for that ...

Sky Bet offers 80/1 for Hamilton to win the championship. I wouldn't put the mortgage on that one.

Re: 2012 Formula One Season
80/1 for the above scenario?! That's frankly ridiculous. The only way he can win it is by winning all three, with Vettel scoring nothing, and Alonso scoring no more than thirteen points. Eighty to one?!hopeful traveller wrote:Sky Bet offers 80/1 for Hamilton to win the championship. I wouldn't put the mortgage on that one.

Re: 2012 Formula One Season
Raikkonen is 67 points behind Vettel. With three races to go, the only way he is going to score 68 points is either by winning two and finishing second in the other, or by winning all three. Unlike with Hamilton though, Vettel can score up to seven points in those three races, and Alonso would have to score no more than 13 points.
Given the above, and given that Raikkonen has come nowhere near winning all year, how on Earth can they be offering 125 to 1 on him winning the title now, especially with Vette; now six to one ON? Do they know something we don't?

Bahrain and Hungary were "nowhere near" winning then?tubeguru wrote:given that Raikkonen has come nowhere near winning all year
Those odds are ridiculous though. Hamilton, Webber and Räikkönen have a combined chance of winning of about zero.

Re: 2012 Formula One Season
OK, so he finished second three times, but I get the feeling that he had no chance of winning any of those races while watching them. Not without the eventual winner suffering some kind of problem.Root wrote:Bahrain and Hungary were "nowhere near" winning then?tubeguru wrote:given that Raikkonen has come nowhere near winning all year

Re: 2012 Formula One Season
Spain, 2012. Hamilton runs out of fuel on his in-lap after Q3. His engineer comes on the radio: "Stop the car. Stop the car, Lewis." Martin Whitmarsh explains immediately afterwards that they didn't think Hamilton had enough fuel to complete the lap. I believe I read somewhere that he did just have enough, but they erred on the side of caution and stopped him.
Abu Dhabi, 2012. Vettel runs out of fuel on his in-lap after Q3. His engineer comes on the radio: "Stop the car. Stop the car." Christian Horner explains immediately afterwards that they had no idea why he had stopped, and had been told to do so by Renault. This despite knowing full well how much fuel they put in the car, and having all sorts of telemetry showing them how much fuel he had. He also gave the game away by looking very sheepish and scratching his nose and neck when speaking (classic signs of a liar).
They're not very classy at cheating, are they?

Re: 2012 Formula One Season
Now Horner is claiming that RB tell Renault how long they want to run for, and then Renault tell them how much fuel to put in. In what crazy world do a car's engineers not decide how much fuel to put in the car?

Murray Walker would be turning in his grave and he's not even dead yet. THAT'S how embarrassing it is.

Re: 2012 Formula One Season
That was fun, wasn't it? Strange how Valencia and Abu Dhabi, two of the dullest tracks in recent years, have given us such exciting races this year.
In the predictions game, we went from the highest scoring round of the year to the second-lowest. The Raven won the round by a single point - in fact, only six points covered the top seven players. Hopeful traveller sits pretty at the top with two races left.
Next up is the US Grand Prix at the brand new Circuit of the Americas. That's in a fortnight's time. I'll post a reminder as usual.

Re: 2012 Formula One Season
Pointless fact: Kimi Raikkonen is the only man to have finished every race this season. Everyone else has had at least one retirement. And he would have finished them all in the points as well had he managed to get at least four places higher in China (he finished 14th).
Drivers with one retirement this year: Vettel, Webber, Massa, Di Resta, Glock (although he had a DNS at the European GP), and Kovalainen.
Drivers with the most retirements:
Schumacher: 7
Karthikeyan: 7
Grosjean: 6
Perez: 5
Pic: 5
Hamilton: 4
Kobayashi: 4
Maldonaldo: 4
de la Rosa: 4
