Can you identify a station from just a paving slab? Sadly, some people can

Photo Quiz: NR Stations

Post by RichieG »

Been a bit of a while... but here is the next instalment of the NR Stations Photo Quiz! (don't know number, don't really care...)

For those who need reminding, rules are similar to the main Photo Quiz er... quiz... but with the added cavat that it is anywhere on the NR network. Send me your answer via a PM, and no more answers will be accepted, correct or otherwise, after 10pm next Monday, 28 November 2011.

This HST has stopped at a green light. I've no idea why it did this, it was here for quite some time despite the light being green. But where was it?

I should probably know this, but I suspect this is a station on a route I don't sign.

I believe that it is on such a route.

PM me with clues - I'm not going to enter, so I won't cheat by sending you the answer afterwards!

The station is Castle Cary.

Correct answers supplied by nozzacook.

Incorrect answers supplied by Starkey (Dawlish) and Going Underground (Tiverton Parkway).

Correct answer also given by tubeguru after this clue: "It's one of the stations I have to change at to get from home to uni, and one frequented by festival-goers...". Not sure which was the giveaway, or whether it was a combination of the two.

I was correct in my original assumption.

Because I didn't recognise the station. Look at my first post in this thread; it contains a suspicion of mine which turned out to be correct.

Ah, I see now. Makes sense.

Having a silly moment :) Things on the mind clouding the judgement and all that...

If you look at the bigger version of the picture, it appears that the train is actually stopped at a red light.

The gantry which shows the green light appears to to be over the middle line and the right hand line (with a red aspect). There is a single red signal further in the background which seems to be in front of the train.

Not entirely sure about that one Moley.

There are three lines here, the one on the right is the Weymouth line, and the two on the left the main lines. The signal gantry is over the main lines, with the single signal beside the branch. The branch joins the westbound (centre) main line, then the eastbound (left) main line shortly afterwards. The two red lights are for the westbound and branch lines, the green on the eastbound (where the train is waiting).

Lines as seen on Google Maps - you can see the three signals are sited next to each other on the bottom left of the image, and the two crossovers. http://g.co/maps/wcedq
