If you're going to multiply them all together, then you should take the logarithm of everything at the end.

Actually this might just take you back to square one...

As a mathematician, can you suggest an alternative to this multiplying madness, Mr Stark?

It would probably make more sense to ignore the raw scores altogether and just use the positions. 10 points for 1st down to 1 point for 10th.

How do you mean? I'm not sure if you're talking about individual rounds or cumulative scores!

Ten entries received so far.

Because it's KER-AZY. Or something. I like it.

I'm wondering what difference it actually makes to the placings. I expect little. To find out, I'll add the scores together after the round, just for comparison. I could do a first-through-tenth points scoring system too. Maybe like formula one?

I don't see why scores across rounds shouldn't just be accumulated, as a running total. So if across these two rounds I've achieved fifteen one-point answers and five three-point answers, then my score should just be something like:

1x1x...x1 (fifteen times) x 3x3x3x3x3

or

1+1+...+1 (fifteen times) + 3+3+3+3+3

Or perhaps square each score individually before adding them together, if you really want to penalise high-scoring answers, or square root each score individually, if you want to mitigate high-scoring answers.

Having a score for each round and then adding those scores together seems a bit meaningless, since all the questions are of the same idea.

Just a quick rminder that this quiz ends the day after tomorrow, so if you intend to enter and have not yet done so, make sure you get your answers to me before the deadline.

There are a few people who entered first time round who have yet to enter this round.

Well, some of you have pushed the limits with a couple of your answers. There have been some of which I approve simply because they have taken advantage of what can only be described as a loophole in the question in er, question.

However, as I am a firm believer in the responsibility being on the question-setter to seal these loopholes in the way he puts the questions (see previous Railbenders), I'm not going to penalise these answers unless they are factually incorrect. I'm just saying this now so that people who didn't think of the answers I've accepted don't get all arsey when they realise they missed a trick. This may spur you on to be more "creative" in your answers in future rounds.

I obviously didn't phrase one question specifically enough, because Rich Tea G has given a splendid answer it, and I can't fault that. On the other hand, Sam has given an answer to one question which, given my knowledge and interest in the subject, has set me a dilemma as to whether it is officially factually correct or not. I'll do some further research before I make a judgement, but once again someone has been original in giving an answer which no one else has.

Just thought I'd lay all this out now before the answers and scores and revealed tomorrow.
