I'm just wondering how they're getting on here...don't the accounts have to be manually activated?

I'll give it a go. Perhaps the spammers will be lured onto the new thread.Soup Dragon wrote:What we do need is someone to post Cryptic quiz IV

The forum is currently set to "user activate". As we've had a spate of spam in the last couple of days I'll change it to see if that stops them.jamesthegill wrote:I'm just wondering how they're getting on here...don't the accounts have to be manually activated?
I doubt it will though, as you will notice that the posters do not have accounts - they are posting as guests.

Isn't it possible to stop guests from posting?

I thought I had that particular issue sorted but it appears that guests can post. I'll have another tinker with it.

Re: Not so Cryptic stations III
OK, I've looked into this further and I have now set guest permissions for all forums to "read only" except the admin-type ones at the top where they have no access at all. If someone would care to try to post as a guest in this forum to test it out feel free.
I've also set all user registrations to be approved by admin (me and Chris). I do have to talk to Chris about the email address he has set for admin as that is where all requests for accounts will go to and I don't want to change it unless he says it won't mess anything up.
Right, cryptic stations ...
