For those of you who ever saw the classic Euroquiz "Going For Gold" you'll be pretty familiar with the format...

I'll describe a station in five clues on a day-by-day basis - points will be awarded based on how quickly you make a correct guess... answers by PM please

1st clue = 5pts
2nd clue = 4pts
3rd clue = 3pts

and so on...

so - let the game commence

Clue 1 I am a zone 4 station and was opened in 1872

Are we allowed only one guess, or one guess per day, or unlimited guesses, or what?

Certainly only one guess per clue - but to make a random guess more risky, if you make a wrong guess you are frozen out of the next clue.

I.e.

You make a wrong guess to the five-point clue, you may only make your next guess from the three-point clue onwards (and so on) if you get me

And will the game finish when the first person gets it right, or will it continue until the end of the day when you give the fifth clue for one point?

And are you making this up as you go along?

Not quite - more a case of answering the questions as they arrive

The quiz will continue until the end of the day of the fifth clue - in that way points will be distributed according to when each entrant guessed the correct answer.

Surely clue 1 should be :- I am in zone 4
and clue 2 be :- it opened in X year

otherwise you give 2 clues

Owing to moving house over the weekend/start of next week I won't be able to guarantee it being at the same time every day - but there will definitely be 24 hours between clues at the least
