In French, bis is used to indicate a "B" alternative. It is often used in addresses, for instance if Sherlock Holmes lived in Paris his address might be 221bis Rue de Boulanger. In London we have the District Line with the Ealing Broadway branch. In Paris they have line 7 and its branch 7bis.
