12 countries in 24 hours

While looking on the GWR website I noticed this record:

Alison Bailey, Ian Bailey, John English and David Kellie visited 11 countries travelling solely by train in 24 hours from 1 to 2 May 1993. Their journey started in Hungary and continued through Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany, back into Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands, where they arrived 22 hrs 10 mins after setting off.

Anyone else interested in trying to beat it?

That's what I was thinking, or doing a completely different route.

Had a bit of a play around with route planning for this and I can't even get close to matching them, never mind doing an extra country.

You can visit 3 countries in 19 kilometres, starting in Monaco, going through France, to Ventimiglia in Italy. I know this as last year I visited Monaco by train!

I wonder if you could follow the south coast of France and tick off Andorra before entering Spain?
