I'm sure it can be used viably, but I'd rather not bother with any un-necessary running!
What I found most remarkable about this attempt was the starting time.
As we all know, the Amersham train is scheduled to leave at 0528. We left at 0528 and 5 seconds, and then Sam & Steve beat the record by exactly that amount! So if it had left early or even on time, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
Well done indeed, I feel proud to have been part of this, even if it makes my attempt that slight bit more difficult. Sorry for the couple of occasions when I didn't fulfill my point-man duty, I hope there are no hard feelings for that!

When we started in Amersham the doors closed 05:28:29. These 29 seconds COULD definitly have made a difference at the finish. There was the definite possibility that would arrive on the T4 replacement bus scheduled at 0:04. Make out the math and you see the 29 seconds could have made all the difference!

I think this highlights the difference between starting when the doors close and starting when the train leaves - which could be more than five seconds...

True, but the rules are quite clear on the matter:CrunchySaviour wrote:I think this highlights the difference between starting when the doors close and starting when the train leaves - which could be more than five seconds...
Cheers,The clock must start the moment the doors close on the first train taken by the challengers.
It must stop the moment the challengers set foot on the platform at the last station.

True, but in the instance of the very first train, you're stopping the doors closing to gain an "unfair" advantage.
Holding doors DURING the challenge is not so bad, as you are only delaying yourself, as the clock has already started.

I disagree.
If I don't hold the doors on the first train of the day, I may be losing ten seconds. But say you reach the doors of an Olympia shuttle and your team-mate is a few seconds behind you - if you don't hold those, you'll be fifteen or more minutes behind automatically. So holding the doors then is more advantageous than holding them at Amersham.

As I said, with the Olympia train, you're losing yourself 10 seconds waiting for your teammate.
That's 10 seconds on to the overall time which would not have been added had you arrived before the doors started closing.
