thers always the chance of just missing a train by seconds of course. if you miss one train then you miss the next and so on, so you end up about 5 trains down at least by the end from one close miss

Time to plan a detailed recce then! I'm starting to take this seriously! Still not going for the record though, partly because it's out of reach and partly because I don't want to follow all the GWR requirements

Yes, practice runs (not necessarily from the start), or just checking your running times between various stations, how to make your changes etc. When you do it for real, you need to know where you're going, not stopping to look at maps/signs, or worse still, going the wrong way!

I'm slowly realising how important this is myself because even if you are just going for a completion you're still 'on the clock' as it were.

If you are doing the standard Chesham start and Heathrow Terminal 5 finish, your challenge cannot start before the first train leaves Chesham and you must arrive at Heathrow Terminal 4 before the last train because it doesn't have a night tube service and you need to go round the loop to get the train to Heathrow Terminal 5 which leaves you about 19 and a half hours ish

19.5 hours time limit shouldnt become a threat for you. anyways once you start you wont just want a completion you will sense competitiveness

Yes, but I think the point being made is that competitiveness can work against you when you don't know where you're going, as the extra pressure forces otherwise unnecessary mistakes! Quite a few people have gone the wrong way out of Aldgate East, for example, on the day even though it is a simple run, when you know where to go

I didn't do that before my first (and so far only!) FNC!

Having already looked at Aldgate East I do already know about this pit fall. The right exit puts you on the right side of the road and it's a short and straight run/walk to your destination

Another thing I've decided to practice is the admin part when I fill in my logbook. Noting down the stations in advance for instance so when I go from Leicester Square to Covent Garden, I'm just filling in times not station names as well

yes good idea however if your route changes due to a signal faliure etc. the changing and confusion which will occur in your notebook is unnecessary stress

I picked the right exit at Aldgate East but forgot which way to go - I took the sign on the street at the eastern end of Aldgate East to be the sign for Aldgate and ran towards it! Not my first FN but it was late in the day

Started my secondary route today. It's based on the WTT16 route but reversed and adapted for a Chesham start and Heathrow Terminal 5 finish as opposed to Kensington (Olympia) start and Chesham finish. Not sure how that could work but the original route was an FNC

Already there is one change I could incorporate into the primary route, that being bus transfer from Leyton to Walthamstow Central (which takes 22 minutes according to Google), as opposed to bus from Leytonstone to Leytonstone High Road then Overground to Blackhorse Road then Underground to Walthamstow Central
