First 275 attempt

Post by editorsfoot »

Making my first all stations attempt this week, although more 272 stations than 275 as I don't think there is much point going to Terminal 4 or Brixton, and I'm not going to lose sleep over Shoreditch as I'm not going for any records. I might not make it to a tube station before the attempt so could anyone tell me what time the ticket office at Amersham opens.

Between 4.50am and 5.15am usually.

That may have been the case prior to the new rosters being introduced, but is it still the same?

I would suggest buying your ticket in advance if at all possible, as you can do so up to a week ahead with a Day Travelcard, and any station (even National Rail ones, though you might need to tell them how to do so) can sell the required ticket.

If you buy it from a rail station, they need to do it from "Amersham Und" (NLC 0506) to "Zone R1256 Zones" (NLC 0035). And, obviously, it needs to be a Peak Day Travelcard.

HTH,

Barry

It was open at 4.59am when I met Hakan and Lars a few weeks ago ...

Thanks for the info about Amersham, will probably risk buying a ticket on the day. Looks like my attempt will be on Thursday so good luck on Wednesday Jonny, are you going to Brixton and Terminal 4 then?

The barriers at Amersham are ALWAYS open at that time of morning.

If you reckon you can get away with just a 1-6 travelcard then try it - you shouldn't need to leave a station within zones A-D and I'm not sure ticket inspectors get up that early in that part of the world ...

You could probably get away with showing an oystercard if you got caught by an inspector on a train, but I doubt that inspectors are that far out at all, let alone early in the morning. I will still buy a ticket, but probably not a back up one for the off peak.

I don't think I've ever been inspected on the Tube.

I have on the DLR, but there's always a member of staff walking around in every DLR train anyway.

I've been checked probably around half a dozen times in 10 or so years of using the Tube regularly, mostly on the Met, but also on the Piccadilly and Central, if memory serves.

And bear in mind that if you do get caught without a valid ticket, you could land yourself with the possibility of a £20 Penalty Fare or a prosecution for fare dodging, which could land you with 3 months in prison and/or a fine of up to £1000.

Cheers,

Barry

I was inspected on Sunday. You never know when they'll strike ...

They actually go around inspecting people as well as tickets?
