My first ever attempt

Post by forgetmenot »

Hello everyone

Complete newbie here. A group of colleagues and I are raising money for the Alzheimer's Society, we aim to raise a minimum of £10,000 by September. 2 of us were thinking about some kind of London based challenge and eventually found out about the Tube Challenge and decided to go for it.

We're going to be doing it next Wednesday, starting at Heathrow and finishing at Edgware Road - which seems considerably less rubbish than finishing somewhere like Upminster considering we both live round the Docklands. It's taken us a long time to figure out the route but we think we've got the best one we can manage.

I'll let you all know how it goes and have enjoyed reading your accounts on here too. Any hints and tips for a Challenge virgin?

Edgware Road (Bakerloo) or Edgware Road (Sub Surface)?

Good luck. It will be harder to get a completion with a central finish like you plan, but all the best, it certainly is possible. I hope the tube behaves nicely for you! I'd be happy to try and answer any last minute questions you might have.

Avoid Westminster. Its budget day - so muck will be flying!

Ahh yes I'd forgotten there were 2 Edgware Roads! I meant the Hammersmith/Circle/District One. I agree central finishes are tricky but we managed to work out a route that allows us to do that, or so we believe! Quite intrigued by the route a lot of people are taking today the Richmond to Heathrow one. I tried to work that one out but didn't manage it.

Moley - thanks for the reminder!Luckily we're just passing right through on the Jubilee so may avoid any dirt being slung in our direction (although, working in Financial Services I'm sort of used to that!)

Interesting passing through on the Jubilee... I rarely use that bit!

Do you have a projected time?

Not as yet, just tinkering with little bits to try and make them more efficient. To be honest, we're in no way going for a record time or anything like that, we're doing it as something a bit different as part of our fundraising.

LOL I am not surprised given any starting and finishing point with 268 stations in between there are an endless number of routes and possibilities. I think I have used the term "millions of routes before* but the idea is to be at your "pinch points" at the optimum times. We were unable to do Ken Oly yesterday due to our train never leaving Richmond, but by getting a bus to Chiswick Park and starting from there, we managed to follow our whole timetable being up and down a few minutes at times until after 2300hrs... We hit a perfect direct MHE train, Hainault Loop and Amesrsham/Chehsam NW corner all as planned....

Anyway all the best and hope you make all 270 :)

BTW it took me several weeks to put the route together, I started last year!

If today is the day they were going to do it, then I would say not yet ...
