Circle Line Bottle challenge (not entirely serious)

Post by travelpass »

As I pulled into Mansion House station on an un-refurbished District line train at about 9:30pm on Saturday 28th January, I had finally been to every station on and in the Bottle.

It has been an ongoing project since first going from Farringdon to Baker Street on the Metropolitan line on 15th March 2001 (trip to Maddame Tussauds).

I had never actually set out to do this challenge, but on Staurday night, while going from Tower hill to Embankment, I suddenly realised, while looking at the central London journey planner map, that I had visited every station on and in the bottle.

So that brings me in at a time of 4 years, 10 months, 13 days, 10 hours, 30 minutes and 33 seconds. 8)

I remember getting a morning train from Bedford that day and arriving in London around 11am, so I just put that time as my starting time.

I admit, it's probabaly not totally accurate. :P

It would be fascinating to see your route plotted onto a map, Travelpass.

I once did all stations in Zone 1 in a day without being on an actual challenge.

But I think that it was because I was either testing it or checking various stations out.

So it was still with the purpose of a challenge in mind.

In which case it doesn't count.

Annoyingly I didn't get to do Epping - Ongar before it closed, but I did do Holborn - Aldwych, so as of 1st October 1994 I had "done" the entire network as it stood then. I've also done the whole of the JLE, and the curve between Watford East and Watford North Junctions since then.

All I've got left to do now is the DLR extension to King George V.

Cheers,

Barry

I've not done Shoreditch or the three stations below Canada Water on the ELL.

Or Heathrow Terminal 4.

And most of the DLR, actually. But I'll keep that one quiet..
