I think a challenge day or maybe what Ric suggested would be a good one. a 273 is, as stated, pretty gruelling to do and not actually make it round all of them. It's the oh so near yet oh so far feeling.

Hell ya i do like the idea of fancy dress and a possible challenge day.

all stations challenge is a bit hard for BBC CIN tbh as we found out last year cause of weather n all the network problems. more probs a COMIC RELIEF charity maybe.

tpfkar wrote:you have to visit a number of stations (from the parks challenge I'd suggest 20) However you only draw one in advance, which is the starting station. Once there, you draw the other 19 and immediately start the clock.

So the challenge involves on the spot route planning as much as anything else.
Like it too! If nothing else, it would give me a reason to improve/generalise my route planning software and get a lap top...

HÃ¥kan, I know that you design the programme yourself, but do you not find that using a computer is less satisfying than using a bit of paper and a pen and working it out using your brain? Is that not part of the fun?

Of course the planning is the fun part - actually physically going through with it merely proves it actually works. Creating software like this is a major challenge in itself and making it, not only work, but actually provide me with a GWR route gives me the utmost sense of joy and accomplishment! I think I've used my brain every bit as much as anyone ever going for the GWR! The pen and paper consumption has probably been more modest though... Using some existing software (had it existed) would indeed had been utterly unsatisfying and totally pointless to me.

It would be fair to say that solving complex or challenging problems with software is indeed my primary hobby - though it takes me into many other realms (the stock market, dialup competitions (the ones popular some 10 years ago), online poker and tube challenging - to mention a few).

Not keen on the bucket collection, you really don't want to be attempting tube challenges with a bucket of coins....

On our CiN last year we handed out flyers with e-mail address of our donation website.....

We did also collect around £100.00 on the day from tube users but mostly in notes..............

If we put Starkey in a Pudsey Bear costume he could only run at normal speed so Me,Soup Dragon,GU & Ping Pon would be able to keep up with him on a GWR Attempt :D

I think you will find that Dr Who and ping pon were talking about their own GWR upcoming attempt rather than CiN day..... :)
