Tube Olympics: Event 6 - Full Network 21st february 2014

Post by tangy »

Firstly, apologies from me for not being on the challenge today, too many of my work colleagues are currently off, so therefore had to fix lorries instead!

Right, back to the action... this is the final event of Tube Olympics 2014 and it ends today with the big daddy- a FNC. I hope all the challengers who are taking part today are still beavering away in the battle to claim a gold medal (and possibly a World Record).

If all teams would like to email me (via Explorer Ticket) their times then I can collate them into all into one post. If you are lucky enough to gain a medal, your medals will be held securely here until the next challenge/meet up.

Once again, sorry for my absence

This is a Central line train to "Woodford via Hainault"- sadly, not no more!

Glen & Kev 265 stations T4  Watford in 16hrs 30mins 32secs

We could have pushed on for a completion but all the Met trains were out of sync and it would have made it very late for getting back to Hatton X

I visited 34 stations on Friday. Does that get me a bronze medal?

Indeed at least 3 teams started although none finished but guessing Al did more than 34 :!:

The belated results for the final event of Tube Olympics.

Three teams and four challengers started the challenge but none of them did the full 270. Therefore the position is decided on the overall time followed by how many stations were visited.

3rd: Andi James: 7 hours-ish (106 stations visited).
2nd: Al Brown: 13:41:49 (232 stations)
1st: Kevin Brown and Glen Bryant: 16:30:32 (265 stations)

So, no new World Record in this event, but a valiant effort by all challengers when the network wasn't being kind. The grand finale seemed to fizzle out like a duff firework...

(Does this write up belong here or in a new thread under attempts?)

This was my 22nd attempt (nudge nudge, Tubeguru!) but only my second to start at Heathrow. I still managed to achieve some firsts:

- Catching a H19
- Running from Snaresbrook to Walthamstow Central
- Physically not being able to fit on the first train to arrive at a certain station

I thought the network itself was running OK for the most part. My main setbacks came from a bus driver going ridiculously slowly approaching my stop, to the extent that I missed my train with huge knock on effects, and from my knee deciding to hurt to the extent that running became impossible.

I'll just have to try again...

Congratulations to Kev and Glen for persevering as far as they did and getting that gold medal.
Held some Alternative Challenge records for a long time.
Doesn't any more.
