Turning back the clock challenge

Post by Rhys1995 »

Anyone who has me on Facebook would have seen I have acquired a 1959 (or at least round about the time anyway) tube map that's now hanging on my wall, which led me to think - would anyone be interested in doing a retro challenge, visiting all of the stations that appear on the old map? Some of the stations include:

All stations to Watford Junction
Aldwych
North Weald, Blake Hall and Ongar
The East London line (or Metropolitan Line as it was back then)
Moorgate - Finsbury Park

I was also thinking we could do this as it would have been done in yesteryear, ie no use of the Stratford Extension or the Victoria Line, and we could also dress up in 50's stuff for a laugh :P obviously we can't visit North Weald, Blake Hall, Ongar and Aldwych so I was thinking, this isn't stopping us from running or getting a bus and taking a photo outside it! Mwahaha.. Shoreditch could be another one we would have to run to.

A couple of bonuses, we wouldn't have to visit the Stratford extension of the Jubilee Line, the Victoria Line and Heathrow, yay!

Well Moorgate to Finsbury park is easily done with northern city line

east London line can be replicated as well easily do you mean actually visiting the outside of the old Shoreditch stationthough?

aldwych can be walked too

Watford junction easily replicated with overground

what I find interesting is blake hall and ongar

I was thinking visiting outside the original Shoreditch station. It'd just be nice to see who would want to do one of these.

I vote we allow a passthrough of Blake Hall.

An interesting manoeuvre could be:

Victoria to Walthamstow Central
69/97 bus to Leyton (both buses are pretty frequent)
Central round the loop and then up to Epping
Heritage bus (339) to North Weald
Steam train to Ongar
21 bus to Brentwood
Greater Anglia to Romford
Greater Anglia to Upminster
District back west
All London buses: 23 hours 25 minutes (with Adham, David, Josh and Tangy)
Holds some alternative challenge records. Not sure which ones.
