Finish your Tube Challenge on foot as opposed to on a train?

Guinness would have to allow you to touch the platform with a prosthetic foot, otherwise they would be in breach of the Disability Discrimination Act.

If I may take a 'legal' view of the rules (with fear of mass mocking given the direction of this thread). Broadly the rules are:

1. You must arrive at or depart from each station by tube train.
2. The clock stops when you place a foot on the platform at the final station.

If I were a judge in court, I would say that in order for a sucessful record attempt, both of these rules (or conditions) must be met. Neither condition disregards the other; and nowhere does it say rule 1 or rule 2.

Therefore if you arrive by train at the final (i.e. 270th) station, the clock stops when you set foot on the platform - tick.
If you arrive by foot, you have yet to satisfy rule 1 therefore your have not yet set a record time. If you stop the clock now, fail, 269/270 complete.

Once you satisfy rule 1, you would suceed but then we have to consider when the clock stops. Having choosen not to stop the clock when you arrived by foot, the rule is very clear that the clock can only be stopped by an arrival at a station. Therefore we have two options:

a) The clock stops at the arrival at the next station (i.e. Chalfont & Latimer)
b) The clock stops when you again arrive back at the 270th (i.e final) station (i.e. Chesham).

You may say that point b is stupid, however say the Chesham is the final station. You choose not to stop the clock when you arrive by foot as this would be an incomplete attempt. You depart by train. There is no option to stop the clock at this point. You arrive at Chalfont & Latimer. You could stop the clock now BUT Chalfont & Latimer is not the final (i.e. 270th) station - you would fail rule 2 which says that the watch stops on arrival at the final station THEREFORE YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO CHESHAM.

It should be noted that the rules do not state that the stopwatch must be stopped the first time you arrive from or depart that station by tube train nor do the rules states that you can stop the stopwatch at the next station once all other rules are complete. IT HAS TO BE AT THE FINAL STATION.

So you must therefore arrivel at your final (270th) station by tube train.

I don't see why you can't consider Chalfont to be your final station - there is no rule to stop you visiting stations multiple times if you wish.

Indeed, I would describe this route as 'Heathrow Terminal 4 to Chalfont & Latimer'.

I could agree with that. My example was based on a Chesham finish however.
