Ever done the challenge without a route planned beforehand?

Post by andytube »

Anyone ever done the challenge without a route planned beforehand? Has anyone ever just decided only on their start point and just hopped on first available connections, etc?
Current best: 19:51:10 (2014). Hopefully that will be broken in 2018 :-)

Surely you'd have some rough idea of where you were going. You wouldn't just arrive at an interchange and think, "Oh, I'll just change here for Ealing Broadway".

The first (and so far only) time I did a challenge, the circumstances to enable me to do so only came together at the very last minute and I had no time for proper planning. I did have a prepared rooute, but it was T4 - Chesham and circumstances dictated I did Edgware - Stanmore. I therefore used the former route and ad-libbed the join between the two ends of it.

This was very much not a serious challenge, but a rare chance to play around on Tubes for a bit.

Would of on the last one if the Richmond branch hadn't gone down first thing!

Not quite, as we changed things around on the Upminster stretch and in Central London in the evening if you recall :)

Andytube, I could tell you a tale of my first tube challenge, and indeed I could tell the rest of the world if they wanted to know... That was a strange challenge that I essentially did almost without a route planned!

I'd be interested to hear about the day where you tried your very best to visit all 270 tube stations in a day. Most people share their story, but you appear to have been completely silent. What was it that caused you to fail? Did the central line flood? That caused me to fail before.
