Re: The Next Big Change to the Tube Network
I'd actually hedge my bets that the next big change to the network won't be this!
it's be the complete withdrawal of service to Kensington Olympia on the district line. they'll use this years figures of reduced patronage to put in a case of getting rid of the service altogether ...
be interesting if that was just the weekday service though, and weekend it still ran. seeing as we KNOW that guinness say that you really can't do it on a saturday, we'll all be able to officially do it with just 269 stations. excellent.

Re: The Next Big Change to the Tube Network
I agree Geoff that Olympia will probably close before this the only difference is Olympia closing won't effect routes it will just speed up times by approx 20 mins. where this will make for interesting and different routes.
Roll on the closing of Weekday service if & when it happens as have a route ready for the day after.

Re: The Next Big Change to the Tube Network
i know that various people have a 16 hours, 18 minute on paper, including Olympia.
so .. take Olympia out of the question ... 20 minutes saved? i managed once to have a 3 minute wait at Earl's Court, 4 minute ride up to Olympia, 2 minute wait for an Overground train, and 2 minutes on that to take me to my next destination : 11 minutes in total! but i guess, yes ... 20 minutes is more common, making me wonder if a 15:58 is then possible sans Olympia!

Re: The Next Big Change to the Tube Network
Whether people will crack the 16 hour mark I'm not sure especially with the network as it is at the moment but no olympia will see a change in the record.

Re: The Next Big Change to the Tube Network
I think Nozza is refering to whether a non ken o the 16h barrier would be beaten not whether the record would be reset u have to ask Guinness what their interpretation would be it wont happen until december if does anyway.geofftech wrote:What, Nozza? Yes it will!
if Olympia comes 'off' the network, i.e. NO trains at all Mon-Fri, then that's a clear map/record reset! 'cause there's one less station!

Re: The Next Big Change to the Tube Network
My interpretation on the Nozza comment was:
- Given the state of the current network it's debatable whether the 16h mark will be cracked
- The absence of Olympia will see a change in the record.

Re: The Next Big Change to the Tube Network
Sorry was not very clear.
When olympia closes yes it will be new record.
With that said unless there is improvements in the network's performance I don't think the new time will go under 16 hours.
