Waterloo & City closing for 5 months from April 1 2006

Hi all,

See the link for TfL's press release explaining the refurbishment work that is needed on the line.

Not having yet done a tube challenge, I'm wondering what impact (if any) this closure would have on challenges. Has anyone found the Drain connection useful, to avoid passing though stations a second time, or is it of minimal use?

I don't think Geoff ever used it before we did it together (oo-er) and we have never used it since.

It will be a pain for the All Lines Challenge though - it's quite handy for that.

The worst thing about it is they plan to repaint the trains! I like the blue style that they are now, but after this they will look like central line 1992 stock! :(

If they are painting rthe trains then the likelyhood is that they will have to move the trains from their current location (probably to Acton) - from memory this requires the carriages being lifted one by one up from the depot, through a hole in the ground and onto a low loader.

Could be an interesting picture oppotunity.

The hole in the ground is just south of Waterloo station at the start of Lower Marsh.

I've never travelled on this line (only that and the H&C line that i have never been on) and I feel I must now do it before they close it and change the trains.

I hope to do this in NOvember when I am down. 8)

I haven't used it either - and I'm in London ALL THE TIME! I think I will use it soon.

I have friends in London who have never used the line either!

Well one of them went on it as a birthday treat this year!

I have no idea why I have done it, but I have used it twice - once when it was using the old Network South East Trains rolling stock and once when it was using its current LU stock. Or am I imagining this...? Did it use NSE stock and if so, when?

The W&C has had a sum total of three different builds of stock..The first build was new with the line's opening in 1898, the next lot came in in 1940, and the most recent in 1993 (92 Tube Stock).

The 1940 stock did appear in NSE livery towards the end of its life, and the 92TS has "Waterloo and City" branding underneath the roundels that have been applied to the vehicle sides, and some of the "inner" ends of units still feature the TOPS Class 482 unit numbers.

I've used it loads of times!

Concerts at the SBC, visits to the IMAX, and going up to the Eurostar terminal.

And the amount of times the people I've been on it with have asked me 'how many stops are we going?' has always amused me..

I'm sure it hates you too

If anyone can travel the whole of the Waterloo&City line standing up, without holding on at all, I'll buy them a pint. It's one rough line, soon to probably be an awful lot smoother.
