I disagree. A solo world record holder who can plan a route and adjust it as necessary during a record breaking day must have a mathematical brain. Arithmetic may not be your strong point, but arithmetic is a small (and in my view rather boring) subset of mathematics. Even if you don't realise it, you need skills in graph theory and dynamic programming to be a successful tube challenger. The mathematician Professor Marcus du Sautoy talks about tube challenging in his latest book 'The Number Mysteries' (pages 164 - 170) and names the current record holders, but unfortunatley there is a typo in his quoting of the record time.Sam wrote:Maths never was my strong point
Given the recent discussion about how many train drivers there are on the forum, I would think that there are probably more mathematicians (e.g. Starkey?)

That's news to me. Might have to look into getting a copy of that book now!Nigel wrote:The mathematician Professor Marcus du Sautoy talks about tube challenging in his latest book 'The Number Mysteries' (pages 164 - 170) and names the current record holders, but unfortunatley there is a typo in his quoting of the record time.
Maths is a strong point for me too, and I hope to follow in Starkey's footsteps by beginning a degree in it next year.Nigel wrote:Given the recent discussion about how many train drivers there are on the forum, I would think that there are probably more mathematicians (e.g. Starkey?)

I also have a degree in Mathematics

if Maths is both ur strong point they ur both surely lacking.Root wrote:That's news to me. I'm not, and I've got better things to do with my time than go chasing some obscure reference. I don't even know what I'd be searching for. Easter egg? They ur both surely lacking?palkanetoijala31 wrote:ur a fan of Doctor Who arent u look it up.
Let's just leave it.

Re: hopefully big inroads made into Bob robinson attempt rec
Hi, its only me. The longest time I held the record was 8 years as I remember it.
However, good luck to all, records are there to be broken.
Best wishes
