Re: Bus route teaser

Having grown up in London I am traditional regarding bus numbers. I still think bus numbers should be, well numbers and forget the alphabetic prefixes and suffixes which can confuse passengers, as the above posts discuss. 1-200 were Central routes. 201-299 were single decker or trolleybus replacemen...

Re: Lands End to John O'Groats

For the third year running, it's Lands End-John O'Groats by local bus. Having studied the latest timetables, I'm hoping to shave 90 mins off my 2016 record of 3 days, 8 hours, 55 mins and not have to resort to an emergency train, like I did last year. I've completed the logistical nightmare of booki...

Re: Zone 1 Challenge Cup 2018- Friday 1st June.

I'll bring along my Underground board game for its first outing. Start at 17:00 in pub and I will need five players. Any volunteers?

Re: Zone 1 Challenge Cup 2018- Friday 1st June.

Am I right in thinking this is the 14th Zone 1 day - Started in 2005? and does anyone have a list of all the starting stations drawn so far? Here you go: 2004 Vauxhall 2005 St James Park 2006 Sloane Square 2007 Westminster 2008 Kings Cross 2009 Angel 2010 Waterloo 2011 St Pauls 2012 Aldgate East 20...

Re: Random 15 Championship 2017/18: Round 5

I give up. I'm an idiot. Round 4 saw me make a basic error of catching the Northern line train in the wrong direction at London Bridge which put me down from a podium finish to 6th. This time I repeated the same mistake at Finsbury Park. I went in the right direction but on the wrong line; Victoria ...

Well done - I think you've broken Clive's recently-set record for the longest FNC! :-)
Damn. I'm second in the fastest times and now down to second in the slowest times!

Re: Southern Daysave

TP's costings of course assume the participant is starting in London - there are no £10 Saturday morning fares from Reading to Birmingham! The best I've managed to come up with so far is £8:30 return Reading - Banbury (Network Card), £8:80 return Banbury - Leamington(!) thence on the WM card (can t...

Re: Southern Daysave

I've done a bit more research on timings and costs for a West Midlands Random 15. West Midlands Day Ranger is £26.50 which covers stations from Northampton to Crewe. West Midlands Day Tripper Plus (the old Centro area) is £9.30. Problem is there are 24 stations not covered by the Day Tripper ticket,...

Re: Southern Daysave

#3 London Midland Challenge On Saturday 17th March, we left a cold Northampton bright and early clutching our West Midlands Day Ranger. We were on the one train a day to Crewe that stops at Polesworth. My ticket cost £26.50 but xcooler123 had used his staff discount and only spent £6.60 for a 450 mi...

Congratulations. Six days on London Underground, Overground, Suburban, Tramlink and DLR is a fine effort for an old bugger!

Re: 60+ Card Challenge

Nigel, how's it going? Great idea and good luck.

I'm only 2 years behind you in age but unfortunately, I will have to wait until I'm 66 for my bus pass as I live in Sussex, not London.

Re: Southern Daysave

#2 GWR (Devon & Cornwall) Challenge Having done Southern the week before, I was on holiday in Cornwall so decided to try a day covering all the Devon and Cornwall branches of the Great Western Railway, using a Devon and Cornwall Rover. There are 80 stations including 3 that I didn't intend visiting....

Re: Southern Daysave

#1 Southern Challenge I departed at 06:14 from Ashford International on Thursday 1st March. Some might say this was not a good day to try the Southern Challenge. Yes it was very cold, yes it was snowing a bit but generally the trains ran on time. I was aiming for 174 stations and covered 151 station...

Re: Tube Olympics 2018: Event 5- Full Network

Yes it was me who took 27 hours and 8 mins to complete a FNC on Friday and Saturday morning. Perfectly valid as I took a N9 bus from Heathrow to my hotel and a 222 bus to Hounslow West in the morning. I started with xcooler123 at Chesham and we were delayed almost immediately when the train to Amers...

Re: Story of My First FNC

A good effort and good luck next time! If you want a completion, start at Heathrow and get Kensington Olympia out of the way early. But for a fast time you probably need to do it the other way round, starting in the NW and keep your fingers crossed (helped by flexible planning) that you hit Olympia ...
