Zones 7-15

On National Rail you can buy a Zones 1-6 Travelcard, which covers travel from your local station plus London Z1-6.It is generally good value and you get a 34% discount with a Network Railcard. But with TfL adding zones left, right and centre, how do you travel to say Rickmansworth in Zone 7? This af...

Re: Another proposed attempt

The other reason this may have happened is because of the current "semi-strike" action currently going on with RMT-backed Drivers regarding noise levels on the tube. They are deliberately going slower on some sections of some lines to try and reduce this. The Central line is one of the lines affect...

Re: Random 15 Championship 2019/20: Round 1

Bricklayers Arms is fine with me. I don’t think a pub in Droitwich should influence our decision. OBB (best bitter) is good and very good value for London. I’m surprised cider is so expensive. You get a room for darts and results and an office for Tangy. Location makes it easy to get to from any R15...

Re: Random 15 Championship 2018/19: Round 6

And as usual, Tangy - Thank you for organising :-) Yes echo that - great job Tangy :D Unfortunately no one will remember who came second! Tangy, thank you for organising all the tube events this year. A brilliant job even if you have lost Finchley Road and Kensington Olympia stations. Hope you're e...

Re: Southern Daysave

Unfortunately we had to cancel our trip due to a family emergency. We spent Thursday in the snowy valleys but I had to return to Sussex that afternoon as Mrs B was taken to hospital for an appendix operation. She's fine now. We'll attempt Wales again some other time.

Re: Southern Daysave

I'd be very surprised if you could do all of Scotland in 2 days. Just the Far North and West Highland lines alone would take a large chunk of that time before you even start with the central belt. Indeed. The whole of Scotland in 2 days would be impossible. My plan is to do all the stations north o...

Re: Southern Daysave

#6 South Eastern Challenge Armed with a 3 day Kent Rover and a Travelcard from Strood, I started at 05:18 from a very cold Dover, singing that Who song. OK it's about Brighton but it kept me warm. Faversham, Margate and Ramsgate were all ticked off on time. Unfortunately I arrived at Ashford 5 mins ...

Re: Tube Challenge 1974

And District Line to Southend! Ah not quite although it does look like that. District Line trains terminated at Upminster. It was a LT&SR steam train that ran from Barking to Southend. As that was part of LMS (National Rail) we can ignore that. The Met ran to Verney Junction via Aylesbury but Beck'...

Re: Tube Challenge 1974

Or the Harry Beck Challenge.... Based on his iconic 1933 map. Met only as far as Watford and Rickmansworth. Bakerloo to Watford Junction (use Overground today), Northern only as far as Highgate, Moorgate to Finsbury Park (use Great Northern today), Central only as far as Liverpool Street, East Londo...

There will be no rules change sorry, the external photo is what makes this challenge so unique and cant really be altered after so many years... I appreciate that this challenge has been running for several years and the format is set but.... it takes about 8 hours and I reckon 90 mins of that is s...

Re: Christmas Park Challenge 2018 - 15th December - Finsbury Park

Well you can't say you weren't warned! Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland was in full swing and a storm was due for the afternoon. It was my first Parks Challenge, so it could have been a baptism of fire. But actually it all went quite well. An early 10:09 departure from Finsbury Park (leaving A2 to wait...

Re: Christmas Park Challenge 2018 - 15th December - Finsbury Park

You'd have thought that tufnellpark would have done a Parks Challenge but no this will be my first attempt. I may even get an unreliable 4 bus to the start at Finsbury Park just for old time's sake. I have a couple of questions on photographing station names. Hyde Park Corner doesn't seem to have it...
