Re: Thinking out loud

Does anyone else refer to the journey between Farringdon and Kings Cross St Pancras (and vice versa) on the Met/Circle/H&C line as "The Trundle"? :) I do, because it takes so long to make what ought to be a short journey, if it wasn't for the fact that the route pretty much goes in the wrong directi...

Re: No more direct Woodford via Hainaults

On some of the journeys I've checked from Hainault to Woodford the fact that it isn't a direct service isn't making any difference to the time you'd arrive at Woodford, which is a good thing I suppose. You just have to wait for a few minutes at Hainault. I don't know whether you have to get off one ...

Re: Thinking out loud

I'm a bit confused about Chiltern Railways at Amersham. I thought the rules said the train had to use the same tracks as the tube, not just the same platforms. At Amersham the Chiltern trains usually leave from one platform and the tube trains from another one. Can you still use the Chiltern trains ...

Re: Post Covid FNC

Sorry to go off topic, but the one thing I wish about the London Underground is that it would be very convenient if there were some toilets at Mill Hill East! Unfortunately there aren't. I bet most people who do the Tube Challenge think the same thing, since you're stuck there for about 7 minutes, u...

Re: Personal safety

I'm not from London (I live in the Midlands between Birmingham and Nottingham) but I've never felt unsafe on the London Underground in all the time I've been using it, which is about 25 years. Maybe it's just me, but I've never seen anyone behaving in a way I found threatening. Having a bad experien...

Re: 1st FNC advice pls

Once again apologies for potentially going off topic but I didn't want to start a new thread. I think I've just had one of those Eureka moments as far as the Tube Challenge is concerned. All this time I've assumed that there are two northern-bound Northern Line platforms at Euston — one going via Mo...

Re: 1st FNC advice pls

Good luck to jambogogs on his TC attempt later this year. Quick question: does anyone know how you can tell which train is going to go first when you're at either Cockfosters or Edgware? On about 3 occasions I've tried to work it out and couldn't see how to do so. I had to guess and got it wrong onc...

Re: My 2nd FNC: Summer 2019

Thanks for the interesting write-up. I'm wondering when you did Ealing Broadway, West Ruislip, etc, but perhaps you've deliberately left that bit out in order not to give away the entire route. Looks like Richmond > Gunnersbury > Chiswick Park (or possibly reversal at Turnham Green) > Ealing Broadw...

Re: Post-Lockdown FNC

It's obviously very frustrating. I managed to come up with a new improved route just before the lockdown happened which I would love to try out as soon as possible.

Re: Stations List

Thanks for the replies, although I haven't looked at them yet because I wanted to work out the answers without being influenced. I'm getting the following: there are 314 possible different journeys between two tube stations in one direction, which means 626 journeys if you count both directions sinc...

Re: Stations List

Sorry if I'm going off topic. I was wondering — does anyone know what the average journey time is across the entire Tube network for individual journeys between two stations? I'm guessing it's about 2.6 or 2.7 minutes but I haven't actually timed all the journeys. Not yet anyway. :D I'd also be inte...

Re: Thinking out loud

Another technical question about the Tube Challenge, (which has probably been asked before at some point in time). If you've done 269 out of 270 stations but the final station involves getting there by walking / bus, etc, so that the final journey is from station number 270 to the next station which...

Re: Zone 1 start/finish?

Sorry if this has already been discussed elsewhere, but can anyone confirm that the number of stations in a zone one only challenge would be 68 in total? In some places it says 64 or 61 but I don't think those are right. (I assume the Zone 1 challenge includes stations that are in both zones 1 and 2...

Re: Another proposed attempt

Question: does anyone know whether the Central Line timetable has been changed in the last week or so? The reason I ask is that there always used to be a 8:55am train departing from Epping towards central London, but this seems to have disappeared from the timetables in the last few days. Could it b...
