Re: Lands End to John O'Groats

I hadn't thought of including long route marches!

Re: Lands End to John O'Groats

No, just a paper exercise at this point. As it's one of the less energetic challenges, I think I can leave this one until I qualify for a bus pass (and a senior railcard to get me to the start and home again!).

Found 4 days 8 hours 43 minutes so far!

Re: Lands End to John O'Groats

For the third year running, it's Lands End-John O'Groats by local bus. Having studied the latest timetables, I'm hoping to shave 90 mins off my 2016 record of 3 days, 8 hours, 55 mins and not have to resort to an emergency train, like I did last year. That's some going - I'm just having a play with...

Re: New Random 15 Championship season.

As Tangy has said, it depends whether you need to pass through barriers to get from one station to another. For Network Rail R15 purposes, the Underground stations at Paddington, Marylebone, Euston, KXSP, Liverpool Street, London Bridge, Waterloo and Victoria count as separate stations to their NR c...

Re: CiN 2018 - November?

Not sure how it would work with an 11am start - yes, there's Night Tube but that's pretty useless for an FNC...

Re: CiN 2018 - November?

I'm tempted by this one because it's one I ought to be able to complete, even with my dodgy ankles. But I can't help thinking that the number of lengthy double backs involved would make this a VERY long challenge!

Bus darts

Now, here's an idea for a (real-life, not forum) game. Two players stand by the side of a road which has plenty of different buses along it and each starts with a score of 301 or 501. The first player calls out the route numbers of the first three buses he sees. If a number is less than 21, or is 25...

Re: New Random 15 Championship season.

Although January is down as the 'National Rail' twist. it will also be the first R15 after the opening of the central section of Crossrail.

Cause for a 'commemorative start' at one of the Crossrail stations?

Re: Random 15 Championship 2017/18: Round 6

As per usual, I think I had a unique (i.e. wrong) route. Sometimes taking a unique route can pay off - if everybody else gets caught up in a signal failure/station evacuation etc that you have somehow avoided! (I remember in the 2016 Tube Olympics DLR challenge David took a different route to every...

Re: Random 15 Championship 2017/18: Round 6

In terms of Round 6, my route was almost exactly the same as RJSRdg EXCEPT I gambled and did the rather unusual Barbican - Mansion House run (yes you read that correctly!). This got me a train ahead of 2nd place. Looking at that on the map, there's no way I could have done that in the time you did ...

Re: Random 15 Championship 2017/18: Round 6

Having checked the scores from previous rounds, I knew that Tangy, Alex, Simon and I were all effectively level on 20 points (Alex and Simon had scored 21 but as their lowest score was a 1, this would be discounted if they had a higher score this time), with A2 on 22 and Kev on 25. Competitively I w...

Re: Random 15 Championship 2017/18: Round 6

If the decision is made to fit in around football, so be it, but I'm not a big football fan. By the way, would it be based on the teams that regular participants are fans of, or which London teams have home games? Personally, I'd prefer it to be decided on the amount of engineering disruption, and ...
