Re: Whole tube map challenge

I thought the idea was to do all the stations on this map: https://tfl.gov.uk/cdn/static/cms/documents/standard-tube-map.pdf So Tube, Overground, DLR, TFL rail and Emirates Airline included, but no more than that. It should be possible in less than 36 hours over a Friday/Saturday, no? Assuming the n...

Re: First completion!!

Well done!
The Heathrow start also worked for me for my first completion late last year, but doing Richmond as well before the last morning Olympia train is impressive! A high risk strategy I would say, but it paid off.

Re: 2nd Attempt

Thanks Nigel, much appreciated.
And thanks to everyone else for the advice on interchanges - all makes sense, just need to implement it!

Re: 2nd Attempt

Yes I took the 1940 District train from HSK to Olympia, but it ran 15 minutes late. At Olympia, because I was there later than planned, I could take an Overground to West Brompton rather than running to Earls Court, which I had planned.
Hope that clears it up!

2nd Attempt

Spurred on by my successful first attempt last month, I had another go on Wednesday (14th Jan). I took Forum members’ helpful advice (thank you) and devised a route starting in Chesham and finishing at Heathrow (opposite way to last time). I know many challengers don’t start on the first train in or...

Re: what olympia train?

I guess I was lucky the District was running ok for me that day!
I suppose you could get off the Piccadilly train at Barons Court, see if the District train is due, and if not then run from Barons Court.

Re: what olympia train?

Hi. I started my attempt in December at T4 and was able to change to the District at Hammersmith, run from West Kensington, and I caught the 615am from Olympia with 3-4 mins to spare.

Re: Whole tube map challenge

You've got me thinking. Sensibly you could do at night the Edgware-Stanmore run, the whole of the Jubilee line, Central Line Ealing Broadway to Stratford, Piccadilly Acton Town to Kings X, and the whole of the Victoria. Any lines closed on Saturday could be completed on Friday. And best of all you'd...

Re: Whole tube map challenge

With all night tube running starting in September are you thinking of a Friday - Saturday marathon all stations challenge? From the lines operating all night I reckon there are 3 to 4 hours of useful travelling you could do, just about bridging the gap until the first trains on Saturday start runnin...

Re: First attempt – first completion!

Yep, you're right. Thanks. Found it here as a freedom of information request: http://www.tubeforum.co.uk/forum/index.php?f=1&t=1827&rb_v=viewtopic&start=420 Unfortunately I've been too busy to attempt again in December. Maybe in January, but it looks like I'll have to plan a route taking in an eveni...

Re: First attempt – first completion!

Iain, how do you know that re: Ken O? The shuttle service you mention doesn't appear on Journey Planner and the only reference I can find on the tfl website is the Xmas festive travel guidance at http://www.tfl.gov.uk/campaign/monday-22-december-2014 Am I missing something? It would be nice to know ...

Re: First attempt – first completion!

Thanks tractakid. Indeed I am thinking of starting up here in the NW next time, although the frequencies aren't a lot better in the morning (I'm also looking at the Amersham/Chesham Bus no. 1 but haven't managed to plan that in effectively yet). A big reason for following the T4 start route was to c...

First attempt – first completion!

I’ve just joined the forum, but have to confess I’ve been interested in the Challenge for at least a couple of years, and have found many of the posts, hints and tips here to be invaluable. I felt though that I didn’t want to join until I’d had a go, and had something to offer. On Thursday last week...
