Richie Firth does the Overground Challenge

I had an email from Chris Skinner and Richie Firth "Travel Hacker" about an attempt for the Overground Challenge which he did in 10:41:00. They made a series of podcasts about this attempt and how they hope to set a new world record. The interesting podcasts can be heard here: Part 1: https://audiob...

Re: Christmas Park Challenge 2019 - 14th December - Chiswick Park

As mentioned to those in pub after Random 15, this date clashes with a planned visit (with the Branch Line Society) to the remote station of British Steel Redcar to board the very last train to stop there before the station is effectively "closed" as passenger trains would thereafter cease to call. ...

Re: Random 15 Championship 2019/20: Round 2

I'm slightly surprised that the HCL is terminating at Baker Street as I didn't think there were facilities to terminate H&C trains there. This has been done numerous times in the past. Trains arrive in the outer rail platform as normal, detrain, shunt forward, change ends then cross to arrive back ...

Random 15 Championship 2019/20: Round 2

Welcome to the 2019/20 Random 15 Championship. I am your host (commonly known to regulars as the BERC when I am hosting Random 15 challenges). The Random 15 challenge is just that, visit 15 randomly selected stations that feature on the Tube Map (usually within zones 1-2 and using the Underground ne...

Re: Random 15 Championship 2019/20: Dates

UPDATE: Due to engineering works on the Metropolitan line, the Parks Challenge scheduled for the 11th January 2020 and Round 3 of the Random 15 Championship have had to have their dates swapped with each other. Therefore the Parks Challenge will now be held on the 14th December 2019 and Random 15 ro...

Re: Top Times: UK light rail

For the details of this discussion, by "Light Rail Challenges" I will include systems such as Manchester Metrolink, Sheffield Supertram, Tyne & Wear Metro and Nottingham Tram (as well as the established Croydon Tramlink and Docklands Light Railway). These are Light Rail systems that have various bra...

Re: Random 15 Championship 2019/20: Round 1

My thoughts on the post challenge meet up venue. I agree about the drink prices creeping up, it seems every time we go there the price has increased but I believe on par with other pubs in the area (we are in Central London after all) although saying that I can make a pint last the whole session! Ho...

Re: Top Times: UK light rail

As stated above, I am more than guilty of using acronyms almost flippantly in conversation forgetting that people may not understand what I'm on about. The worst is when the same acronym can mean different things - for example CFD in my job could mean: Computational Fluid Dynamics Customer Facing D...

Re: Random 15 Championship 2019/20: Round 1

The official results of round 1 of the 2019/20 Random 15 Championship held on Saturday 22nd September 2019. This was the Champion's Twist round and therefore last season's champion David Edwards gave us the following: LU, DLR, LO and DLR, Zones 1 and 2 and that you were NOT allowed to cross the Tham...

Sorry about the delay, we just took the dog for a walk. Column A hidden now.
Time to generate some stations but I'm afraid as it is in zone 4, Barking will not feature!

Re: Generator failure?

Thanks Tangy I've added Farringdon (doh!) I've changed West Hampstead (NR) to West Hampstead Thameslink I've made Limehouse one entry, but I just used the stations as listed on the generator site and that has the distinction there. Limehouse isn't a station I frequent that often, I may need to pay ...

Re: Generator failure?

Very goode but a couple of comments/omissions Farringdon is open for Thameslink services so should be included. West Hampstead Thameslink should be written out in full, to avoid confusion with the Overground station (LO is part of the NR network of operators, as is Thameslink). I believe Limehouse i...
