Re: Photos used in quizzes

I might not be correct when I say this, but once photographs are posted on photo-sharing sites like flickr, anybody can use them without having to credit the poster. I don't think there is any legal requirement to cite the photographer - similar to leaving your rubbish out on the street, where it i...

Not the most southerly, not public, or not a toilet? :-)

Re: Eurovision Song Contest 2009

But Malta came second in 2005 with "Angel", and didn't require a Greek dancer cavorting in a short skirt to reach that placing, which clearly makes it the moral winner.

Re: Anyone fancy a hello 2009 challenge?

GPSes with a live internet connection do exist I suppose, but that's the point where they stop being called GPSes and start being called "mobile phones" instead ;-) Or, to put it less flippantly... the Apple iPhone has a GPS built in, so in principle someone could write an app that would post your l...

Re: Anyone fancy a hello 2009 challenge?

I can't see it harming to send such data, though it's easily manufactured (the data is seemingly an xml file that could easily be constructed from scratch) so wouldn't carry much weight. I would have thought it'd be harder to (convincingly) fake a GPX log than, say, a list of train numbers or a set...

Aha. I would probably have got that, if only Kingsbury non-alcoholic lager hadn't come up in my internet search first :-)

Re: Children in need day

While you're at it, could you ask them if they'd add a few seconds to the 100m sprint record on days when I've got a bit of a bad leg? :-)

Re: Not so Cryptic stations III

Someone totally needs to make a tube map with Ollie's answers on it. (And for anyone feeling particularly evil, find a lost American tourist to hand it to.) I don't get the Barbican one by the way, unless it's based on the assumption that non-alcoholic lager is the only type that comes in cans or so...

Re: Zone 1 interchange challenge

OK, a bit of Hakan-style number crunching later and I can say that there are no perfect routes that visit all zone 1 interchanges without revisiting any. However, there are 5 mostly-similar routes (not including reversals) which visit all of them except one particular station...

Re: Zone 1 interchange challenge

It can certainly be done with 24 changes (not counting start and end stations as changes) if you're allowed to pass through interchanges and not count that as your visit. But under that rule, you could potentially be going half way round the circle line between changes, so number of changes isn't ne...

Re: tube challenge history updated

It sounds to me like a wiki would be a good fit for documenting this sort of thing - it isn't dependent on one person maintaining it, and isn't constrained by the sort of 'linear' nature of the forum, if you see what I mean. (I'm not sure I even see what I mean myself...) The one I set up at http://...

However, I still don't quite get no 10, but then again, it seems to involve some racial slur (or something?) - so I'm not sure I want to understand it... It's not that bad - it's more about racists than actually racist in itself. The Daily Mail is a right-wing newspaper, well known for its hysteric...

Re: Warwick Avenue by Duffy

Continuing the trend, this weekend I wrote a song about Edgware Road . What makes it slightly more interesting is that it was also written, recorded and mixed entirely on trains. (The recording was done in a cabin of a sleeper train, so luckily I was spared any strange looks from fellow passengers...)
